List three books that have had an impact on you. Why?

Before I read The Warriors, the film had already cemented itself in my memory as a timeless classic. Its unforgettable scenes, quotable lines, and raw depiction of street gang culture stayed with me for years. The grit, violence, and tension that made the movie so compelling were all present in the novel, but the book went even further than I expected. It left a lasting impression on how I view storytelling. The ability to make brutal and often disturbing moments feel like a vivid literary journey through gang culture is a rare skill. The novel doesn’t simply tell a story—it immerses you in a world that feels both dangerous and strangely captivating.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was the subject of a high school project and has remained with me ever since. Its exploration of the blurred line between madness and resistance to authority is nothing short of masterful. McMurphy is an unforgettable protagonist, surrounded by a cast of eccentric yet deeply human characters who each contribute to a story about individuality, courage, and self-discovery. Through some of life’s most honest and difficult moments, the novel speaks to the universal desire for freedom and dignity. And, of course, Nurse Ratched stands as one of literature’s greatest antagonists—a figure readers cannot help but want to see defeated. The film adaptation is another example of cinema honouring its source material and bringing it vividly to life. I still find myself thinking about this story, and on certain days I feel a little like McMurphy. Hopefully, his fate won’t follow me.
Although 1984 sat on my reading list for years, I was already familiar with its reputation long before I finally picked it up. When I did, it felt strangely familiar yet impossible to put down. Orwell’s novel is another story about pushing against the tide and daring to think critically in a world that punishes dissent. Winston’s struggle to maintain his individuality within a system built on conformity remains as compelling as ever. His relationship with Julia adds another layer to the narrative—a human connection that persists despite a society determined to suppress it. The result is a powerful and enduring story about freedom, truth, love, and resistance. Decades after its publication, 1984 remains as relevant and thought-provoking as ever.
