Thoughts From a Varanda (Balcony)

Luso Heritage Chapbook
The fullness of time falls back on the history that preceded us, that’s why it’s essential to know our heritage. That long distance relationship was something that our ancestors maintained, and in turn, we did too. Our broken comprehension of the language was no barrier to the infinite love that our families had for us, nor that affection that the country showed us. There was always an adoration regardless of how we communicated with each other. We are Portuguese at heart.

Finding Madeira

The Atlantic is full of gems and one of them is Madeira. With a combination of poetry, prose and travel diaries, the reader learns about the beautiful island and everything it has to offer. Finding Madeira is full of photographs that are carefully paired with poetic reflections. At times it feels like a travel guide and at other times feels like a memoir. The author wants us to experience with him the place where everyone belongs.

The Portuguese Immigrant: Atlantic Heritage Story

A child of Azorean immigrants raised in a community populated entirely by others whose family history mirrored mine. We grew up not understanding the intricacies of how our life came to be or why our families acted in a certain way. Only by asking questions, listening, observing, researching, and reading do we discover the micro and macro influences on their behaviors that have been passed down to us through nature and nurture. Once you truly understand where you came from, the pieces of the puzzle of your own life start to fit together.
