The Scars Saudade Wrote — A New Book Is Born

The Scars Saudade Wrote — A New Book Is Born

There are stories we tell.

And there are stories we carry.

Today, I’m beyond grateful to announce the release of my new book, The Scars Saudade Wrote — an anthology of creative nonfiction that has lived quietly inside me for years, waiting for the right moment to surface.

This collection brings together interconnected personal essays and narrative-driven stories that explore identity, memory, migration, and inheritance through lived experience. It is rooted in cultural observation and intimate storytelling, tracing how family history, community, and geography leave lasting marks—both visible and unseen—on who we become.

At its core, this book asks:

What do we inherit beyond language and last names?

What lingers long after we think we’ve moved on?

A Mosaic of Memory

Moving fluidly between childhood recollections, inherited silences, and present-day realizations, The Scars Saudade Wrote blends reflective prose with grounded storytelling. Each essay stands alone, yet together they form a mosaic—revealing how personal history echoes across time.

These pages walk the emotional terrain of diaspora and belonging. They attend to:

  • The quiet weight of generational damage
  • The ache of saudade
  • The resilience forged through displacement
  • The complicated beauty of return

The word saudade itself holds no perfect translation. It is longing, memory, grief, love, and presence all at once. It is the scar that reminds us something mattered deeply. This book lives in that space.

Writing Through Inheritance

Much of this collection was written in moments of reckoning—when memory collided with understanding. When I realized that identity is not something we simply choose; it is something shaped by the places that raised us, the people who came before us, and the stories they never told.

These essays examine the invisible architecture of family history. They confront inherited silences. They sit with the truth that wounds do not disappear simply because time passes. But they also honor the resilience that emerges when we face those wounds honestly.

This book is not just about migration across oceans. It is about migration across generations. About what it means to belong—and what it costs.

Why This Book Matters Now

We are living in a time when questions of identity, displacement, and belonging feel louder than ever. The Scars Saudade Wrote is my offering to that conversation.

It is for anyone who has felt split between places.

For anyone who carries stories they didn’t choose.

For anyone who has returned home only to realize they are no longer the same.

If you have ever felt the pull of memory like a tide—gentle, relentless, shaping—you may find yourself in these pages.

Thank You

Writing this anthology required excavation—of memory, of emotion, of truth. Sharing it requires vulnerability. But stories are meant to be released into the world, not kept in drawers.

Thank you to everyone who has supported my writing journey, who has believed in the power of narrative, and who understands that sometimes the most enduring scars are the ones we cannot see.

The Scars Saudade Wrote is now available.

And I cannot wait for you to read it.

This is a deeply moving and beautifully articulated introduction.

There is a quiet power in the way you’ve explored identity—not as something chosen lightly, but as something inherited, layered, and often shaped by unspoken histories. The phrase “invisible architecture of family history” is especially striking; it perfectly captures how deeply our roots influence who we become.
