There are many talented Luso artists that can be found on the internet, however among the growing list is a collective voice of hilarious personalities that are growing in popularity. A group of stand-up comedians have recently collaborated to showcase their work and give the community something to laugh about.
Porkchops & Comedy made a recent stop at the Oasis Convention Centre in Mississauga on September 19th before heading over to Cambridge the following night. The comedy show featured Portuguese comedians that kept the entertainment flowing as guests were served a three-course dinner while trying to keep the food in their mouths amidst laughing out loud.
Promoted in collaboration with Luso Funny and ComedyPortuguese, sharing the event on his large following on social media, the proceedings were hosted by Ray Bernardo. Opening performers included Jess Goddard, Manny Miranda, Jeff E, Ashley Mendes and Steve Just4Laughs, who had recently solidified an impressive audience online.
After a brief intermission, the comedy continued with Joe Botelho, who had been previously featured on the Kill Tony podcast, Pete Van Dyck, Emmanuel Melo and coming out of retirement, Joao Francisco, who opened his set with a singalong of his memorable song for the World Cup many years ago. The crowd knew every lyric to the song and the local legend thanked the crowd in a heartfelt moment stating that he missed that.
Finally, the organizer of the show, and Luso-Canadian social media personality with the most collective followers online, Ben Fate of ComedyPortuguese, closed the show with a hilarious musical set sprinkled with some cultural reflections about bringing the laughs on the internet for over the last ten years.
His set was entertaining while his gratitude for a gracious audience in attendance was evident. Attracting over two hundred people on a Friday night was surely not easy, yet everyone had a great time that made for a pleasant atmosphere, and all the performers had a great stage to share their talent.
At the end of the night, they all gathered for a group photo while the crowd applauded thunderously. What followed was music mixed by the young DJ GoodVibes and dancing for those that wanted the party to never end.
Such an event was a great way to bring the community together. You should seek these comedians out if you want to have a good laugh. Without a doubt there will be more to come and you don’t want to miss this next time!
