On Sunday March 3, the cast of the new RTP limited series, Portuguese Problems, was in Toronto for the international premiere. The week leading up to the event saw the cast premiere two episodes in San Jose and New Bedford, before arriving in Canada for a coast to coast unveiling.
Visiting large Portuguese communities among the diaspora, the tour stops were also the hometowns of the prominent cast members—Taylor Amarante from California, The Portuguese Kids (Derrick DeMelo and Brian Martins) from Massachusetts and Mike Rita from Toronto, Canada.


The comedy supergroup has toured stages around the world talking about the funnier side of growing ethnic however this is the first collaboration on screen and the first English program produced outside of Portugal to be featured on RTP, the public broadcasting station of Portugal.
The unique offering is a 6 episode half hour sketch comedy series. Humorous skits are spliced with real interviews about the immigrant lifestyle and ongoing gags that keep the viewer immersed from start to finish. Joining the all-Portuguese cast are Vanessa Medeiros, Chantell Arraial and Graça Pinhancos and behind the camera was Dean Camara, the award winning cinematographer and director for the project.
At the premiere, VIP guests were invited to watch the two episodes at The Revival event space on College St. After the screening, there were drinks and mingling while the cast answered questions. They also took pictures with their fans. It was a crowd pleasing event that roared with a thunderous applause at the conclusion of the screening, bringing much anticipation to the worldwide television premiere.

The first of its kind television show will air on RTP on Monday evenings starting March 18. Watch the commercial below and check your local listings.
